TELLING WATFORD'S VIBRANT STORY
PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE

To better showcase Watford's rich history and dynamic spirit, we plan to relocate Watford Museum, and its growing historical collection, to Watford Town Hall.

This move will foster connections with nearby cultural venues like the Colosseum and Watford Central Library, accommodate a broader range of visitors and allow us to open up the Museum for all our community to enjoy.

Our exciting plans will see the Museum move to the front of the Town Hall following its refurbishment.

This includes the listed ‘committee rooms’ that are wonderful examples of 1930s design. The move gives us a great opportunity to design a musuem that gives visitors a really exciting, interactive and memorable experience.

During the move, the Museum team will take the heritage service 'On Tour' across the town. Look out for dates and venues.

FUTURE OF BENSKIN HOUSE

The current museum building, Benskin House, is an important piece of Watford’s heritage and its Grade II listing will ensure it is preserved for future generations.

TEMPORARY MUSEUM
FAREWELL

From October 2023, Benskin House is no longer open to the public. It will be used it in a limited capacity for pre-booked groups and activities.

This is all in preparation for the big move, ensuring that our town's history and heritage are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.

Exciting times are ahead for Watford's Museum and Heritage Service. Get ready to explore, learn, and connect with your town's incredible history like never before.
